Bodywork and Movement Sessions

Become an empowered, informed body owner.

I guide body owners (that’s you!) through a process that helps them trust their bodies and move with more ease, liberated from chronic restriction. This usually results in us getting to the root of your pain, movement, and postural problems. But regardless of long-term outcome, my main goal is for you to have a fully empowering, nourishing, and insightful experience learning to inhabit your body in a more whole and complete way as we navigate the process of engaging your body’s innate, self-correcting potential.

In an initial session, I take you through a thorough movement and postural assessment to help you understand why your body is stuck in the experience you are having in it. In person sessions may include both craniosacral therapy and movement.

My aim is to empower my clients with movement solutions so they can take ownership of their bodies’ needs for healthy movement and tap into the innate healing abilities every human body possesses.

If you are not in Melbourne but would like to explore working together online, please see the online sessions information, or book a free discovery call to chat about whether this would be a good option for you.

My Tool Kit

Anatomy in Motion™

Anatomy in Motion™ (AiM) is a way of assessing and working with the human body based on how our 360 joints move in a specifically organized fashion through the gait cycle, created and taught by Gary Ward, author of What the Foot.

At each moment in time in the gait cycle (walking cycle), each of those bones and joints are doing something very specific, and by using Gary’s Flow Motion Model of gait as an assessment tool, we can see what exactly is happening with the body that could be keeping people in pain or limiting their performance.

The aim is to identify and understand postural distortions an individual is holding habitually, what movements may be missing from an individual’s system currently, and give the body a  more efficient, integrated experience of how to move.

We are interested in looking at the entire body, and the interdependent relationships between all joints, from your talus to your occiput, not just at the areas that are symptomatic. It is not odd in a session to focus on how the feet are moving when the area of complaint is the neck. After all, about 25% of the bones in our bodies are found in the feet! Not a body part to ignore.

AiM sessions include a static postural, and dynamic (movement based) assessment, and specific movement interventions to help the body find a more centered, balanced, and efficient way of moving.

Craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral therapy:

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a relaxing, gentle, subtle form of manual therapy that releases soft tissue and joint restrictions in the craniosacral system: The cranial bones and sutures, the spine, sacrum, coccyx, and the membrane system that houses the nervous system. The craniosacral system is linked with the circulation of the cerebral-spinal fluid, which is crucial for the health of our brain nervous system, and receiving CST aims to improve fluid flow, keeping the brain healthy and functioning at its cognitively, and emotionally.

By addressing restrictions in the craniosacral system, CST has a profound effect on helping with autonomic regulation (homeostasis), and many chronic symptoms that might be related to heightened sympathetic nervous system hyper-arousal, such as:

  • Chronic fatigue and burnout
  • Prolonged stress
  • Chronic illness and autoimmune disorders
  • Anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
  • Brain fog
  • ADHD
  • Chronic joint and muscle pain
  • PMS symptoms
  • Migraines and headaches
  • IBS, and other digestive complaints
  • Back and neck pain
  • TMJ pain or tooth grinding

CST is a fantastic modality if you have back and neck pain or chronic stiffness and headaches. If you have ever had whiplash, concussion, head injuries (no matter how minor), a fall on your tailbone, a surgeries, or any other accidents and ailments affecting the skull, spine, or sacrum, including giving birth, craniosacral therapy can help.

Somatoemotional release (SER) is a component of CST, which works with potential emotional elements linked with physical restrictions in the body. This might look like a conversation as we work together on the table, or it might happen non-verbally.

Personal Strength and Mobility Training

One of my clients in her 60s working on her strength goals.

I am experienced in working with individuals post-rehab who want to get back to exercise and strength training, and with dancers who want to improve their performance and prevent injuries.

My my primary clientele are individuals 40+ who are beginning to recognize the importance of taking care of their bodies, and are using strength and movement training to slow the effects of aging, become more resilient, and live as close to pain-free as possible so that they can enjoy an active life for as long as they live.

I help individuals to identify their starting point, and work with them to set goals and develop a plan of action to work towards them whether they want to reduce their daily aches and pains, reach a strength goal, or improve their posture.

Training sessions are a mix of mobility work, specific movements to attain structural balance (based on an Anatomy in Motion assessment) and strength training with a mix of bodyweight exercises, and use of weights, barbells, and kettlebells.
