Applied Anatomy in Motion Classes

“Applied Anatomy in Motion” is an online class that guides you through movement explorations based on AiM closed chain gait mechanics.

The intention of Applied AiM is to support you having an experience of AiM mechanics in your own body helping you build a deeper connection with your bones, joints, and muscles in motion as per the patterns described in Gary Ward’s Flow Motion Model of gait (how every joint in the body should ideally coordinate into specific patterns to complete the most efficient footstep possible).

This class is NOT about learning joint mechanics intellectually. Nor is it even about “fixing” your problems, trying to get out of pain, or optimize your performance (probably the perfect class for you if you’re trying to balance your “Type-A” tendencies….).

My goal in facilitating this class is to hold a space that supports you to curiously and honestly explore how your body moves without any expectation to get anything out of it but to inhabit your body in a deeper way, becoming more connected to what it feels like to be You.

The intention of Applied Anatomy in Motion is simply to help you better understand how your body is currently able to (and NOT able to) move based on AiM principles. Each class will help you investigate, in a structured, logical way, whether there’s potential to gain access to joint motions you may be missing and move as a more whole and complete version of yourself.

I remember how impactful it was for me, in my early 20s when I first began using AiM to help my various aches and pains, to be guided through movement in my own body, so I could get out of my head and just experience what it was like to inhabit my own system, free from having a goal of trying to optimize it. Ironically, in the process of becoming more aware, things naturally start to shift on their own. My hope is to provide an opportunity for this to happen for you, too.

Class structure

  • Each class has a theme. A specific body part, movement pattern, or common ailment. For example: Foot pronation, spinal cogs, ACL injuries, the scapulae, hip extension etc.
  • Check in/self assessment. Performed AiM-style, just like we would do in any in-person course, or 1:1 session with an AiM practitioner. You will be guided deeper into understanding where your body is in space (static posture), what joint motions you can and cannot access, and where the relationships between body parts are connected well, or disjointed and need help.
  • Movement exploration. I’ll guide you to explore your body in motion so you can have a deeper experience of inhabiting it based on AiM closed chain joint mechanics. I’ll be using language that is non-technical, and simple to understand whether you have studied anatomy/movement or not.
  • Re-assessment. We’ll see what’s changed at the end of the exploration.

Class length: 45 mins.
Cost: $18 (try your first class $10)
Each class is recorded if you cannot attend live.

Who is this class for?

Applied AiM classes are open to all humans of all levels and capacities 🙂

You do not need to be a movement or manual therapy practitioner, or to have studied AiM. The only prerequisite is to have a desire to better understand how your body moves and to explore the potential of your biomechanics more honestly. While it will be helpful to have some level of familiarity with the AiM model, it is not necessary to have ever experienced AiM as either a client or practitioner to get something out of this class.

I will not be teaching joint mechanics (there are other courses in which you can officially learn the Flow Motion Model and closed chain joint mechanics with Gary Ward). Applied AiM classes are to guide you through movements and self-assessments that we use in AiM to support your body without the technical jargon of a formal AiM course.

If you would like to start with something more educational to learn the details of AiM closed chain joint mechanics, you may like to explore my Liberated Body program first, or one of Gary Ward’s online programs if you are intending to learn this work to help your clients.

As we often say in AiM, “Let the experience create the learning”. Whether you are a practitioner helping other bodies wanting to enhance your awareness, or hoping to nourish your own body through thoughtful movement explorations, Applied AiM might just be the class for you.
